Old, New, Borrowed, Blue
We've all heard the rhyme, "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue." But did you know there's one more part to it that I know I didn't know, and I'm sure many newer coupled don't know. The full rhyme is:
"Something old,
and something new,
something borrowed,
something blue...
And a sixpence for
your shoe."
Very few seem to know about this last part. There's a tradition that says if a bride wears a sixpence in her left shoe during her wedding, the marriage will be blessed with wealth.
As for the more known portion of the rhyme I'll let you in on a quick history lesson of where it comes from.
"Something old,"

"something borrowed,"
Not just anythings supposed to be borrowed, this item must be borrowed from a happily married couple. It's borrowed in hopes that some of their good fortune will be passed to the newly weds.
"something blue..."
Ever heard the phrase "true blue"? The something blue is a reference to the loyalty and faithfulness that are to be shown in the relationship.
